Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnamese boxer Truong Dinh Hoang has claimed the World Boxing Association (WBA) Asia East Super Middleweight title after defeating Korean rival Lee Gyu-hyun.
Hoang took 10 rounds in the men’s 76kg category to secure the belt and become the first Vietnamese fighter to win the title.
The fight was the main event at Victory 8 – the Legends of Hoan Kiem, which was the biggest combat event ever held in Vietnam at Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square, a historic spot in the capital.
A total of 24 Vietnamese and foreign fighters battled it out at the event, with prize money amounting to 100,000 USD. The Vietnamese fighters won eight of their bouts.
The Legends of Hoan Kiem was the first professional boxing competition to be held in Vietnam, and was approved by the National Sports Administration./.
