Hanoi (VNA) - Nguyen Trung Nam of Vietnam won a brace of titles at the 2018 Melbourne Open Championships on January 16 in Australia.

Trung took part in both boys’ U11 and U13 categories at the annual tournament which is organised by the Boroondara Tennis Centre for both local and international athletes.

Trung took three wins in the U11 category and topped the ranking with six points. He then met almost no difficulty in beating No 1 seed Rohan Chalisgaonkar 6-3, 6-2 in the U13 final.

The 11-year-old also came second in the U13 double pool. He paired with Tim Le and they won one and lost one match. The winners were Xaivea Jae Briscuso and Sarthak Sharma who secured two wins.

Trung has been playing tennis since he was a little boy. He is a member of a talented team trained by former national team player Le Quoc Khanh in Ho Chi Minh City.

He won a silver medal in the U10 class at the national tournament for juniors in 2016. A year later he took a bronze for the U12s.

Coach Khanh said Nam has great potential, and is smart and hard working. He could be a promising athlete for Vietnam in the future. - VNA
