Minister of Defence, General Phung Quang Thanh on Dec. 28 met with visiting Commander-in-chief of the Chilean Army, General Oscar Izurieta Ferrer.

At the reception, General Oscar Izurieta Ferrer informed Minister Thanh of the results of his earlier talks with the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, Lieutenant-General Tran Quang Khue.

The Chilean Commander-in-chief expressed his wish that the bilateral relations between the people and armies of Vietnam and Chile to be further cemented and developed, especially in national defence. He also said Chile wants to learn air defence from Vietnam, production of military uniform and equipment as well as other issues of mutual concern.

Minister Thanh welcomed the delegation of the Chilean Army. He thanked the people of Chile for their support in national defence to the Vietnamese people during previous wars as well as the current time.

He guaranteed that Vietnam attaches importance to a multifaceted cooperation with Chile and is willing to share experiences in building the army forces. Thanh expressed his wish that the cooperation between the Vietnamese Army and the Chilean Army would further develop upon this visit.

The delegation of the Chilean Army will end their Vietnam visit on Dec. 31./.
