Vietnam has won a gold medal at the third international circus festival that took place in Albacete , Spain , from Feb. 14-25.

Director of the Vietnam Circus Federation (VCF) Vu Ngoan Hop said that apart from the show “Superman swing” that was performed for the first time abroad, eight artists from the VCF also won the Audience Favourite award, based on a vote by 10,000 spectators.

The other gold medal of the annual festival went to the “Strength of hands” show by Mongolian artists.

The festival 2010 attracted more than 80 artists from 15 countries and territories with 24 shows, including three by Vietnamese artists.

The success at the festival has helped Vietnam ’s circus affirm its new position and image in the eyes of international friends, Hop said, adding that the delegation of Vietnamese circus artists has received invitations to sign performance contracts and attend arts festivals.

This success serves as encouragement for local circus artists to join the international circus festival to mark the 1,000th Thang Long-Hanoi festival, Hop added.

The VCF will launch a modern mobile circus programme in the central coastal city of Da Nang on March 3.

The federation plans to give performances around the country, including remote and mountainous areas, he added./.
