The Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand on Jan. 30 held a get-together to welcome the Lunar New Year (Tet) festival and the successful organisation of the 11 th National Party Congress.

Addressing the event, Ambassador Ngo Duc Thang highlighted the country’s achievements last year, especially the success of the 11 th National Party Congress with many documents of great significance to the national development.

Thang also spoke highly of the overseas Vietnamese (OVs)’s support to the national construction and informed them of the increasingly developing ties between Vietnam and Thailand.

At the event, the participants had a chance to enjoy traditional Vietnamese Tet dishes.

In the evening the same day, the Vietnamese Embassy in Algeria held an informal meeting to welcome the Tet festival.

Attending the event were about 300 OVs living and working in Algeria, Abdelkader Ziari, president of the Algeria-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians Group, representatives of the Algeria-Vietnam Friendship Association and the Vovinam Association of Algeria.

The same day, dozens of French friends having fondness for Vietnam joined a get-together that was organised by the France-Vietnam Friendship Association (AASPV) in the French city of Dreux.

The event saw the presence of Cathérine Rault, deputy mayor of Dreux city and Cécile Minh, chairwoman of the AASPV.

Cécile Minh said that this annual event has become traditional activity of the association.

She added that last year, with the support of French friends, the association donated 500 sewing-machines to disadvantaged people in the central province of Thanh Hoa and 30 wheel-chairs to the disabled in the northern mountainous provinces of Cao Bang and Bac Can./.
