A Vietnamese National Assembly deputy and Director of the Lo Go-Xa Mat National Park in the southern province of Tay Ninh has been awarded by the Swiss city of Bern for his bear protection efforts in Vietnam.

The Mayor of Bern, Alexander Tschaeppaet, presented the award to Nguyen Dinh Xuan at a ceremony jointly held by the Swiss Embassy in Vietnam and Education for Nature Vietnam (ENV) in Hanoi on April 20.

As a member of the NA Committee for Science, Technology and the Environment, Xuan has made outstanding contributions to the conservation of wildlife, particularly bears, which are the symbol of Bern .

He has also joined domestic and foreign communications agencies to implement activities to raise public awareness on the conservation of bears and other endangered wildlife species.

Nguyen Thi Van Anh, Coordinator of the ENV’s Wildlife Protection Programme, said that wildlife protection work is expected to receive continued support from NA deputies, law enforcement agencies and lawmakers, contributing to the protection of bio-diversity and the environment in the coming time./.
