Vietnam-Cuba defence cooperation is a symbol of the friendly relations and special brotherhood between the two States and peoples, according to Cuban President Raul Castro Ruz.

President Castro made the statement during a reception for a Vietnamese military delegation led by General Do Ba Ty, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Minister of National Defence, in Havana on October 28.

He also confirmed his desire to consolidate the traditional ties between the two nations’ armed forces.

He expressed his satisfaction with the in-depth military cooperation, stressing that the fruitful cooperation has contributed to meeting the demand of improving the self defence capacity of the two countries.

President Castro and General Ty voiced their willingness to share experience in Party building and ideological and political work in the army with the aim to thwart all sabotage activities attempted by hostile forces .

Earlier, the Vietnamese delegation held talks with Minister of Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces (RAF) Leopoldo Cintra Frias and Alvaro Lopez Miera, Deputy Minister and Chief of the General Staff of the RAF, during which they reviewed the defence cooperation in various realms, including personnel training.

As part of his visit to Cuba from October 25 to 28, General Ty has visited military bases in the host country and the Vietnamese Embassy in Havana. He also laid a wreath at the statute of late President Ho Chi Minh’s statue in the capital city.-VNA
