Vietnamese cuisine gained popularity again at the annual ASEAN Food Day in Cairo, Egypt on October 25, with nem (fried spring rolls), pho (noodle soup with beef) and basa fillet tempura luring hordes of food lovers.

Within only three hours, nearly 100 bowls of pho and 500 pieces of spring roll sold like hot cakes.

According to Chairman and General Director of Egyptian Marketing Company Ahmed Youssef, Vietnamese basa fillet is among the best sellers in Egypt thanks to its quality and affordable prices, and his company distributes 15 containers of frozen basa fillet per month.

Amateur chefs from the embassies of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam cooked traditional dishes such as rice with savoury coconut or spicy curry sauce, glutinous rice cake.

The event was hosted by the ASEAN Cairo Committee and attended by diplomatic mission staff and their families as well as expats from ASEAN countries and the locals.-VNA
