Thedelegation held a political consultation with Czech Deputy ForeignMinisters Petr Drulak and Ivan Jukl and a working session with Directorof the Department of Foreign Affairs at the President’s Office HynekKmonicek and Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Jiri Havlicek.
At the functions, the Czech officials spoke highly of Vietnam’sachievements in its “doi moi” (renewal) efforts as well as its growingstature in the Southeast Asian region and the Association of SoutheastAsian Nations (ASEAN).
They stressed that theircountry continually treasures its traditional friendship andmultifaceted cooperation with Vietnam and will strengthen itscoordination with the nation at international forums, especially withinthe frameworks of the United Nations, the Asia-Europe Meeting andASEAN-European Union (EU) cooperation.
DeputyForeign Minister Petr Drulak announced that the Czech parliament hascompleted its internal procedures and will ratify the Vietnam - EUFramework Agreement on Comprehensive Partnership and Cooperationshortly.
The two sides agreed to jointly organisecultural activities to mark the 65 th anniversary of their diplomaticties (1950-2015). The Czech Republic will assist in organising theVietnam Week, scheduled to be opened in the capital city of Prague onMay 13.
The countries’ officials also voiced theirdelight at the developing trade-investment relations in recent yearswith trade reaching 294 million USD in 2014, rising by 23 percent from ayear earlier. They also consented to closely coordinate in implementingthe outcomes of the fourth session of the nations’ Joint Commission forEconomic Cooperation held in Hanoi in last May.
TheCzech side said it will continue official development assistance toVietnam in small-scale projects such as environmental protection,climate change resilience and agricultural biotechnology.
The countries will step up delegation exchanges, particularly betweenministries and localities, to intensify collaboration intrade-investment, education-training, defence-security, environment,crystal production, pharmaceuticals and health care.
At the meetings, the Czech Republic spoke highly of contributions bythe Vietnamese community, recognised as an ethnic minority group there,to local socio-economic development as well as economic relations andthose between the two peoples. It described the overseas community as arole model for other minority groups in the country.
The Czech leaders also valued Vietnam’s and other ASEAN countries’approach to the East Sea issue by settling disputes peacefully incompliance with internationally recognised law. It supports ASEANcentrality in cooperation within the Asian-Pacific region.-VNA
