The Children Literature programme was established in 2006, divided into two phases. It aimed to give Vietnamese children access to innovative literature developed by Vietnamese authors and illustrators, which tells the story of developing basic different values.

Children’s interest in literature is growing, and foreign books and cartoons are becoming increasingly popular. To further support the development of Vietnamese children’s literature, the Children Literature Programme strengthened the capacity of Vietnamese authors and illustrators as well as the use of children’s books in education in schools and within the family, according to Nguyen Thuy Linh, from Kim Dong Publishing House, which specialises in publications for children.

The publishing house cooperated with the Hanoi Writers Association and the Danish Writers Association to support the development of Vietnamese children. The focus is on capacity development of Vietnamese authors and illustrators, which takes place through seminars and joint production of a children’s book.

Over 10 years, the programme has held eight writing competitions. As a result, 4,000 stories and cartoons have been created.

The project also serves as a bridge between Danish and Vietnamese authors.-VNS/VNA
