HCM City (VNS/VNA) – Phuong My will become the first Vietnamese
designer to open Vancouver Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2019 which will be held
on September 17-23.
My will present her spring/summer collection 2019 at the opening night on
September 17 at Vancouver Art Gallery’s North Plaza.
The collection will feature dozens of designs in luxury materials, printed
patterns and specific shapes, especially suited for Asian women.
The 31st season of the Vancouver Fashion Week will see the participation of
nearly 100 designers from many countries and territories such as the US, the
Republic of Korea, Australia, Germany, Spain and Switzerland.
Born in HCM City, My, a graduate of the Academy of Art University in San
Francisco, began her design career after winning top prizes at two prestigious
contests, Are You Runway Ready in New York City and the Discarded to Divine
Project in San Francisco in 2010.
In 2013, she returned to HCM City to launch her own brand PHUONG MY, which has
received a warm welcome from customers and celebrities.
She now has 30 stores in 20 countries and territories, including France, Italy,
Taiwan, China, the Republic of Korea, Dubai, Kuwait and the United Arab
Emirates.
My has also worked as a stylist for key fashion magazines in Vietnam such
as Elle, Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue.
She has attended leading international fashion events, including New York
Fashion Week Event sponsored by Astonish Magazine in 2011, Black V
San Francisco Fashion Show in 2011, Tokyo Fashion Fuse Show in 2011, BLUEPRINT
Fashion Show in Singapore in 2011, Asia Fashion Week in Malaysia in 2011, Perth
Fashion Festival in Australia in 2015, and Dubai Fashion Week in 2017.
Vancouver Fashion Week began in 2001 dedicated to cultivating the success of
both established designers and award-winning emerging designers with its global
perspective and highly multicultural approach.
Since 2014, the organiser has presented the annual Nancy Mak Award, given to a
talented and promising emerging designer with the intention of providing tools
needed to bring their brand to the next step.-VNS/VNA
