Phnom Penh (VNA) – The Embassy of Vietnam in Cambodia on October 20 held a ceremony to raise funds for flood-hit residents in the northern mountainous and north central provinces of the home country.

The event was attended by staff members of the embassy, representative agencies, businesses and Vietnamese students in Cambodia. A working delegation of the Vietnam Television led by its General Director Tran Binh Minh also joined the fund-raising ceremony.

Vice Secretary of the embassy’s Party Committee Ho Van Dinh called on the participants to donate money to aid affected people, helping them to overcome flood consequences and stabilise their lives.

In response to the call, the embassy’s staff donated at least one-day salary while members of Vietnamese representative agencies, businesses and students also contributed cash to support flood victims.

Continuous downpours from October 10 triggered floods and landslides in Vietnam’s northern and north central regions, causing huge losses in humans and property.

Up to 75 people were killed, 38 injured and 28 others went missing. More than 2,600 households were forced to evacuate.-VNA
