The Vietnamese Embassy in Singapore has vowed to work closely with relevant agencies to bring home the body of sailor Tran Duc Dat who was shot dead by pirates off Singapore’s coast in the early morning of December 7.
The ill-fated victim, native to the northern port city of Hai Phong, was flown to a Singapore hospital but later died from his injuries, captain Ha Huy Toan told Vietnam News Agency reporters on December 8.
At 5:30am (local time), the 16-crew ship VP ASPHALT 2 was carrying 2,300 tonnes of asphalt from Singapore to Vietnam when a gang of armed pirates stormed the board and stole properties before escaping on a hi-speed boat.
The ship of the Vietnam Petroleum Transport JSC is set to leave Singapore port for the southern province of Ba Ria - Vung Tau on December 9.
