Cairo (VNA) - The Vietnamese Embassy inEgypt on June 8 launched a fundraising campaign to call for donations to the COVID-19 vaccinefund in the home country.

The activity was in response to the call of the State President, Prime Minister, Vietnam Fatherland Front's Central Committee and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Attending the event were the entire staff of the embassy and representative agencies of Vietnam in Egypt.

Speaking at theevent, Vietnamese Ambassador to Egypt Tran Thanh Cong reviewed the COVID-19 pandemic in Vietnam and the nation's prevention and control efforts.

Cong called on the Vietnamese community in Egypt topromote the spirit of great national unity and mutual support, and contribute both financially and spiritually to the fight against COVID-19 at home./.

Nearly 9,000 blood units collected at red spring festival

First launched in 2008 to address post-Tet blood shortages, the festival expanded nationwide in 2010 under the direction of the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation Campaign. Over 17 editions, the festival has attracted hundreds of thousands of donors across the nation, with the Hanoi event – hosted by the institute – collecting nearly 120,000 blood units.

Vietnamese, Chinese localities promote exchanges

The New Year meeting, which was first held in 2016, and the Joint Working Committee’s meeting, initiated from 2008, have proved efficiency, leading to significant common understandings regarding exchanges and cooperation among the parties.
