The 2015 Vietnamese Family Festival themed “Loving warm family meals” was officially opened in Hanoi on June 26 as part of activities to mark the Vietnam Family Day (June 28).

The festival is being co-hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MOCST), the Vietnam Women’s Union and the Hanoi municipal People’s Committee.

Addressing the event, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Vuong Duy Bien said the celebration of the Vietnam Family Day aims to raise awareness among the public and organisations in society as well as authorities about the role of family in maintaining and providing traditional values in conjunction with advanced values in the modern world.

Event activities include a photo exhibition titled “Mai am gia dinh Viet” (Vietnamese loving family), seminars, a cooking contest, art performances and a parade.

A highlight of the event is a “loving messages tree” where thoughtful and grateful messages from family members are written on heart-shaped leaves and then hung.

The event’s activities also aim to promote gender equality, reduce poverty and prevent family violence.

Family Day has been organised annually since 2001.-VNA
