The Vietnamese film “Cha va con va…” (Big Father, Small Father and Other Stories) is among nominations for the best film at the 65th Berlin International Film Festival, which is being held from February 5 to 15 in German capital of Berlin.

Directed by Phan Dang Di, the film will compete for the Golden Bear and Silver Bear awards against 18 other films from numerous countries. It is one of the three Asian nominations this year, with the two other works from China and Iran .

“Cha va con va…”, based on a true story, is about young people who moved to Ho Chi Minh City from the countryside.

This is the first time Vietnam has a film listed at a reputable international film festival’s main sections.

Previously, Vietnamese-born French director Tran Anh Hung and Vietnamese-American Tony Bui had their works nominated at the competitions of Cannes , Venice , and Berlin festivals.

Founded in 1951, the Berlin international film festival is one of the most prestigious events in the world.-VNA
