Vietnamese in Canada support national sea sovereignty

Vietnamese communities in Ottawa and Vancouver, Canada have donated 10,000 CAD to Vietnamese coast guard and fishery surveillance forces and fishermen who are protecting Vietnam’s sovereignty right and jurisdiction in its continental shelf and exclusive economic zone.

The donation was made during talks on the latest developments inthe East Sea briefed by Vietnamese Ambassador to Canada To Anh Dung inOttawa and Consul General in Vancouver Tran Quang Dung on July 5.

Since the beginning of May 2014, China has illegally dispatchedthe oil rig Haiyang Shiyou – 981 as well as a large fleet of armedvessels, military ships and aircraft to Vietnam ’s waters.

China ’s armed vessels aggressively fired high-power water cannonsat and intentionally rammed against Vietnamese public-service and civilships, causing damage to many boats and injuring many people on board.

Chinese ships have continuously encircled, constrained anddriven away Vietnamese fishing boats and even injured Vietnamesefishermen, threatening their lives.

On May 26, Chinese ship11209 sank a Vietnamese fishing vessel while it was operating normallyin its traditional fishing ground near Vietnam ’s Hoang Sa (Paracel)archipelago.

On July 3, China detained Vietnamese fishingboat QNg 94912 TS with six fishermen on board while they were normallyoperating in the traditional fishing ground in Hoang Sa (Paracel)island.

Ambassador To Anh Dung also updated Vietnamesecommunity with Vietnam ’s response to Chinese aggressive acts. Somesaid that they are supportive of firm and cautious stance by theVietnamese state and government in the fight.

In Vancouver,Consul General Tran Quang Dung told participants that Vietnam advocatessettling the dispute by peaceful and legal means.

Similar events will be held in Montreal and Toronto soon.-VNA

Phu Tho: 200kg bomb safely relocated, detonated

According to a report by the Phu Tho Military Command, local residents spotted the bomb on August 31 in the Da River after the river water receded, exposing it beneath mud and soil on the riverbed. The bomb remained intact, including its fuse, and was located about 300m from a residential area.
