Vietnamese in Luang Prabang pay tribute to heroic martyrs

The Vietnamese Consulate General in Luang Prabang on July 27 held a ceremony to offer incense and flowers to commemorate Vietnamese martyrs who fought against the common enemy of Vietnam and Laos to regain freedom for people of the two nations on the occasion of the 74th War Invalids and Martyrs Day.

Vientiane (VNA) – The Vietnamese Consulate Generalin Luang Prabang on July 27 held a ceremony to offer incense and flowers tocommemorate Vietnamese martyrs who fought against the common enemy of Vietnamand Laos to regain freedom for people of the two nations on the occasion of the74th War Invalids and Martyrs Day.

The ceremony, held in Phat Tich Pagoda, was attended byConsul General in Luang Prabang Nguyen Dang Hung and representatives ofVietnamese agencies, businesses and community in Luang Phrabang.

According to Hung, the annual event is a chance for theVietnamese community in northern Laos to pay tribute to heroic martyrs who felldown for the freedom and independence of Laos and Vietnam.

It also offer an opportunity for youngsters to get deeperunderstanding on the tradition of solidarity between Vietnam and Laos in bothpast struggle for independence as well as present national construction anddefence, thus raising their awareness and responsibility in reinforcing thegreat friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive partnership between thetwo Parties, States and peoples.

Phat Tich Pagoda is the worshiping place for six Vietnamesemartyrs who died in Luang Phrabang during the anti-US war. This is also a “commonspiritual house” of Vietnamese people living, working and studying in the Laolocality, and a venue for religious activities of Vietnamese Buddhist followers./.
