Thailand’s Civil Service Commission will enhance Thai civil servants’ ASEAN language capabilities by launching an ASEAN language training project.

Run by Srinakharinwirot University (SWU) in Bangkok, the first phase of the initiative will offer Vietnamese and Cambodian language classes (September 1 - October 26). Participants will gain listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.

The Civil Service Commission wants to boost the civil service's efficiency and working standards, as well as adjust its role and mission to meet world changes, plus develop human resources in the ASEAN region, the Dean of SWU Faculty of Humanities Wanee Aujsatid was quoted in The Nation newspaper.

The project will help Thai civil servants work effectively in the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) which is expected to be established in 2015.-VNA
