The central province of Quang Tri and the two neighbouring Lao provinces of Savannakhet and Salavan co-oganised a conference to evaluate the 2011-2012 cooperation results in science and technology, and formulate a cooperation plan for 2012-2013.

During the event, jointly held by the three provinces’ Departments of Science and Technology, representatives from the localities agreed on the content of the cooperation in the time to come.

It includes close coordination among the three departments to research and evaluate the environment, natural conditions, resources and the socio-economic situation, as well as the development of a science and technology database for Salavan’s sustainable development.

They agreed to establish two science and technology information stations and their necessary support systems in Salavan.

In the future, Quang Tri will support Savannakhet by providing technological equipment and help the province train the workforce to grow mushrooms, build laboratories, workshops and storage units, and instal water and electrical systems.

Since 2005, the three provinces have succeeded in many science and technology cooperation projects.

The conference is part of activities to mark the 35 years since the signing of the Friendship and Cooperation Treaty between Vietnam and Laos, as well as the 50 th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries - contributing to the implementation of their cooperation strategy in economics, culture, science and technology for 2011-2020.-VNA
