The border marker planting teams of Vietnam ’s northern province of Son La and Laos ’ Huaphanh province are jointly scouting for the planting of eight markers along the shared border in this dry season.

According to Colonel Ha Duy Hom from the Son La team, markers can only be planted during the dry season as the weather is favourable for transportation of materials to border marker sites which are inaccessible by car.

The eight border markers, No. 150th to 157th, will be located on the border section shared by Muong Leo commune in Son La’s Cop Sop district and Siengkho commune of Laos ’ Huaphanh province. Five markers, No. 145th to No. 149th, have been planted on this section.

Son La shares 250 km of border with Laos ’ Huaphanh and Luang Prabang provinces.

According to the project to upgrade and augment border markers along the Vietnam-Laos border, 101 new border markers are to be planted on Son La’s border with the Lao localities in addition to the existing 24 ones.

When completed, the border section Son La shares with Huaphanh province will have a total of 118 markers and the Son La- Luang Prabang border, seven./.
