Vietnamese, Lao police arrest cross-border drug traffickers

Vietnamese and Lao law enforcement authorities on December 21 arrested two drug traffickers in Phonthong district, Lao province of Luang Prabang in a joint operation.

According to the Border GuardCommand of the mountainous province of Son La, the operation was carriedout by the command’s drug squad, the anti-smuggling force of theVietnam General Customs Department and Phonthong district police.

The two suspects, Na Sinh Cha and Giong Hau, all residents ofPhonthong district, were caught red handed at midnight when they weretrading four cakes of heroine (nearly 1.5kg) and more than 14,000synthetic pills.

The criminals confessed that they had boughtthe drug in Bokeo province of Laos and planned to smuggle into Vietnam.

The case has been handed over to the Lao side for dealing in line with Lao law.-VNA
