Radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) and Lao National Radio inked an agreement for cooperation in the 2012-2014 period, in Hanoi on Sept. 5.

The agreement was signed during the Sept. 4-9 working visit to Vietnam by a high-level delegation of Lao National Radio, headed by General Director Sipha Nonglath.

Under the agreement, the two sides will continue to introduce the culture and politics, economic and social achievements of each country and send delegations to each side to exchange professional experience.

VOV will help train editors, reporters and technicians on the Lao side.

Addressing the signing ceremony, VOV General Director Nguyen Dang Tien affirmed that the special ties between VOV and Lao National Radio had been boosted through bilateral cooperation agreements from 1990. The current agreement aimed to boost cooperation between the two sides during a changing world situation.

Sipha Nonglath expressed his hope that the agreement would create a driving force for cooperation between the two radio services.

Every year, the two sides send about five delegations to exchange professional experience.

In 2007 and 2008, VOV sent technicians to Laos to survey and build a project to improve the quality of broadcasting in Luang Namtha province.

From 2008, VOV developed and carried out the project to build a regional radio and television station in Luang Prabang province. The station was put into operation in March, 2011.

In 2010, with assistance from Lao National Radio and relevant agencies, VOV opened its representative office in Vientiane. /.
