Authorities from the southern province of Binh Phuoc held a memorial and burial service on July 25 for the remains of 69 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who laid down their lives in Cambodia during the past war.
The province’s search teams found the remains during the 2012-2013 dry season in Cambodia’s northeast province of Karatie and northwest province of Kompongthom.
Thanks to support from the Cambodian Government and its Royal Army, Binh Phuoc province’s search teams have so far collected and repatriated the remains of 2,364 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers.
On the same day, a similar ceremony was also held in Vinh Hung district’s martyrs’ cemetery of southern Long An province to bury Vietnamese volunteer soldiers’ remains found in Cambodia.
During the 2012-2013 dry season, Long An province’s K73 search team found 28 sets of remains, raising the number collected in the 2001-2013 period to 1,984.-VNA
