France’s Ecole normale superieure de Cachan (ENS Cachan), a prestigious public institution of higher education and research, presented Vietnamese professor Nguyen Van Hieu with an honorary doctorate degree at a ceremony on October 18.

ENS Cachan Director Prof. Pierre-Paulo Zalio said that the honour is in recognition of Hieu’s research in physics, as well as his contributions to the cooperation between Vietnam and France, particularly between Vietnamese universities and ENS Cachan.

Prof. Hieu has published 130 research works in quantum physics. From 1996 to 1999, he was a member of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics’ Commission on Particles and Fields.

ENS Cachan has conducted many cooperative projects with Vietnam’s universities, including the Hanoi University of Education and the Ho Chi Minh City University of Pedagogy.

It is also one of the French educational institutions assisting Vietnam in establishing the Hanoi Science and Technology University, part of Vietnam’s project to build world-class tertiary training institutions.-VNA
