Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam’s diplomatic staff have met the three Vietnamese nationals, who are among sailors held hostage by Somali pirates from 2012 and recently rescued, and they are expected to return home in the near future.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs ordered the Vietnamese Embassy in Tanzania send staff to Kenya shortly after receiving information about the 26 crewmembers of ship Naham 3, including three Vietnamese, set to be freed and sent to Kenya.

They were kidnapped by Somali pirates in March 2012.

The diplomatic staff arrived at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on October 23 to meet the Vietnamese sailors, whose health was generally in stable condition.

After medical check-ups, the United Nations’ Hostage Support Programme is scheduled to return the crewmembers to the Vietnamese Embassy, which will later complete procedures to repatriate them.-VNA
