Top middle-distance runner Truong Thanh Hang clocked 2 minutes 1.41 seconds to win gold in the women's 800m event at the Asian Athletics Championships in Kobe, Japan, on July 10.

Hang, who bagged a silver medal in the 1,500m last week, officially qualified for the 2012 London Olympics.

The 25-year-old runner accelerated in the last metres to beat Margarita Matsko from Kazakhstan 2:02.46 and Indian Tintu Luka 2:02.55.

At the Asian Games in Guangzhou last year Hang took home silver medals in the 800m and 1,500m events

Hang was sent to train in Germany in preparation for the 2012 London Olympics qualifiers last month, where she won the women's 400m gold with a time of 55.67sec at the Borsig Track and Field Tournament.

A national team member, she has won gold medals at five SEA Games from 2005 to 2009, and is a golden hope for Vietnam at the 26th Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia this November.

She will be the only Vietnamese athlete competing in the World Athletics Championship in Shanghai in September./.
