Vietnam took a big victory at the 35th Southeast Asian Shooting Association Championships (SEASA) which wrapped up in Laos on Sept. 12.

The Vietnamese marksmen proved their skill in the regional tournament with 10 gold and one silver medal to take the top place overall.

Veteran Hoang Xuan Vinh took the first gold in the men's 25m sport pistol with 583 points, followed by Anang Yulianto of Indonesia who shot 581 and Kulchairattana Pongpol of Thailand on 578.

Vinh later had his second gold in the team event as he grouped with Ha Minh Thanh and Bui Quang Nam earning 1,732 points, 21 more than the runner-up Indonesia.

Thanh then made up a hattrick at the competition with two more golds in his forte of 25m rapid pistol individual (579 points) and team (1,705 points) events.

Later in the men's mobile target mixed air rifle, Do Duc Hung won after gunning 367 points. Hung and teammates also topped the podium in the team event, scoring 1,095.

Ngo Huu Vuong added another gold for Vietnam in the men's 10m standard mobile target air rifle with 565 points. His great performance, together with two other teammates, was enough to help Vietnam top the ranking table in the men's category, earning 1,667.

On the women's side, Nguyen Thu Van, after taking her individual gold in the air pistol event, stepped again to the podium for the second title in the team event.

Apart from the gold, Vietnamese shooters also snatched one silver in the men's team 50m pistol and entered the final round of women's 10m air pistol and 10m standard mobile target air rifle.

Last year Vietnam triumphed the at tournament with 17 golds.

The tournament was the final warm-up for regional masksmen in preparation for the 26th Southeast Asian Games.

Vietnamese athletes, who returned home on Sept. 14, will next step into an intensive training course to defend their titles at the Indonesia's Games this November./.
