Two Vietnamese workers surviving from a steel frame collapse in the Republic of Korea ’s Uijeongbu city are in stable condition after receiving treatment at a local hospital.

The accident, which occurred at a light rail transit construction site in the city, took the lives of five workers, including two other Vietnamese, both aged 26, on the evening of July 25.

Police said the accident took place when a launching girder, a 30-metre long and six-metre wide construction machine connecting the bridge deck, fell down. Workers on the deck were buried under debris.

The Vietnamese embassy and the Vietnamese Labour Management Board in the RoK are coordinating with relevant agencies of the host country to assist the victims.

Responsible RoK agencies are investigating the cause of the accident.

Construction on the 750 billion KRW light rail system began in July 2007 and is scheduled to be finished by August 2011./.
