Vietnamese war-time film impresses Argentine audience

The Argentina-Vietnam Cultural Institute (ICAV) and the Cuba-Argentina Friendship House screened the Vietnamese film “Canh dong hoang” (The Abandoned Field) in Buenos Aires on April 5 to celebrate Vietnam’s 40th anniversary of Southern Liberation and National Reunification (April 30, 1975).
The Argentina-Vietnam Cultural Institute (ICAV) and the Cuba-ArgentinaFriendship House screened the Vietnamese film “Canh dong hoang” (TheAbandoned Field) in Buenos Aires on April 5 to celebrate Vietnam’s 40thanniversary of Southern Liberation and National Reunification (April30, 1975).

The film directed by Nguyen Hong Sengives an “unnerving and compelling subjective-camera-eye-view” of lifeunder helicopter fire in the Dong Thap Muoi (Plain of Reeds) area of theMekong Delta during the war in Vietnam.

Theaudience was deeply moved by the Vietnamese people’s desire forsurviving and their resilience in the fight against the US imperialists.

Argentinean friends later gathered at a workshopfollowing the movie to review the April 30 victory – which they said wasmade possible thanks to the solidarity of Vietnamese people.

President of the ICAV Poldi Sosa recalled the days of the fierce warin Vietnam when millions of people across the globe closely followed thesituation in the southern part of Vietnam.

ManyArgentinean people also joined in the anti-US war movement and on thehistoric April 30, 1975, crowds of people took to the street, wavingVietnam’s national flag and President Ho Chi Minh’s portrait tocelebrate the victory.-VNA
