Vietnamese women are willing to preserve and bring into full play valuable traditions of the nation and determined to follow the Party to build the country.
The statement was made by Chairwoman of the Vietnamese Women’s Union Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa at a ceremony held in Hanoi on March 7 to mark the 1970 th anniversary of the Trung Sisters’ uprising, the 100 th anniversary of the International Women’s Day (March 8) and the 45 th anniversary of the women’s t hree - responsibilit y movement .
Addressing the ceremony, Hoa reviewed the glorious history of Vietnamese women and honoured the immortal spirit of the Trung Sisters who led an uprising against the Chinese Han invaders in AD 40-43 and the t hree - responsibilit y movement . The movement was launched d uring the wartime , in which Vietnamese women assumed responsibility for the household, production and fighting in their menfolk's place.
On behalf of the Party and the State, Head of the Party Central Committee for People’s Mobilisation Ha Thi Khiet recognised the role and contributions made by the Vietnamese women to the struggle to liberate, build and protect the country.
At the ceremony, John Hendra, the United Nations Chief Representative to Vietnam , also spoke highly of the role and position of Vietnamese women and affirmed the UN would continue supporting Vietnam as well as the Vietnamese Women’s Union in the implementation of laws on gender equality, domestic violence prevention and in the fight for the advancement of women.
Earlier, on March 6, 100 Vietnamese outstanding businesswomen were awarded the “Golden Rose Cup” for their contributions to the socio-economic development of the country.
