Vietnamese young physicians convene first congress

The first National Congress of the Vietnam Young Physicians’ Association (VYPA) for the 2009-2012 term opened in Hanoi on June 28 with the presence of Vice State President Nguyen Thi Doan and Health Minister Nguyen Quoc Trieu.

Addressing the event, Vice State President Doan praised Vietnamese young physicians’ achievements over the past time and affirmed that the VYPA will be a common house for young physicians who are learning and working both at home and aboard to contribute to the cause of public healthcare.

The Vice State President asked Party committees and State authorities at all levels, the Fatherland Front and organisations to support and coordinate with the VYPA in order to help the newly established association gain sustainable development.

Nguyen Phuoc Loc, Standing Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Youth Union Central Committee, said that despite difficulties and challenges, Vietnamese young physicians have made remarkable contributions to public healthcare.

Participants at the congress discussed and approved the VYPA’s orientations and tasks as well as the association’s charter.

The congress elected 90 members to the VYPA Central Committee and 25 members of the VYPA Standing Committee. The Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Children’s Hospital No.1, Tang Chi Thuong, was elected the president of the association./.

Remains of Vietnamese fallen soldiers, experts repatriated from Laos

The remains of 12 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts, who laid down their lives in different periods in Laos’ Savannakhet province, were repatriated following a handover ceremony on May 21. They will be re-buried at the Road 9 National Martyrs Cemetery in Vietnam's central province of Quang Tri on May 22.

Nghe An reburies martyrs' remains repatriated from Laos

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Phung Thanh Vinh said that carrying a noble international duty, many Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts heroically joined Lao people in their struggle for national liberation and independence. Many of them sacrificed their lives in the country, including more than 12,000 soldiers laying down in the three provinces of Xaysomboun, Vientiane, and Xiangkhouang.
