Two Vietnamese representatives will attend the Youth summit on Tigers, which will be held for the first time in the city of Vladivostok in Russia from September 12-18.

Tran Minh Hien, the Director of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in Vietnam said that it is an opportunity for Vietnamese young people to voice their concerns about the need for this rare animal to be protected by friends across the world.

At the event, the participants will also visit Russian forests inhabited by tigers to learn about the situation on the ground and the number of tigers, then work out solutions for their protection.

According to Le Thanh Binh, head of the Biological Diversity Protection Department, Vietnam is one of 13 countries where wild tigers still live. However, in Vietnam they are on the verge of extinction.

The WWF expressed its hope that the number of tigers will double by 2022 after implementing the national tiger conservation programme./.
