Berlin (VNA) – The strategic partnership between Vietnam and Germany has entered a new stage of development, Vietnamese Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung said at a recent event in Germany.

Speaking at the Liebesmahl (Love Feast) on March 15 night (local time), Minister Dung spoke  highly of Germany’s support to Vietnam over the past time as well as the role of German businesses in Vietnam’s economic development and national construction.

The official called on German firms to step up their investment in his country, especially in the areas of Germany’s strength and Vietnam’s demand like machinery, finance, insurance, renewable energy and personnel training.

He also appealed to German politicians and enterprises to push ahead with the signing and ratification of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) as soon as possible in order to facilitate economic cooperation between the two countries as well as between Vietnam and the EU at large.

In this regard, German Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Peter Altmaier said the content of the deal is being translated into languages of EU member countries.

The agreement is expected to be passed ahead of the European parliamentary election in late this May, he said.

Before the annual feast, Dung had a meeting with the German minister as part of his working visit to the country. He was among 300 special guests to the event, the 99th of its kind.
