Vietnam and Indonesia have set a goal of obtaining a two-way trade value of 10 billion USD before 2018.

To that end, the Investment and Trade Promotion Centre (ITPC) of Ho Chi Minh City and the Indonesia Consulate General co-hosted a conference to introduce Indonesia ’s strengths and advantageous points to Vietnamese businesses in the city on March 27.

According to Pho Nam Phuong, ITPC Director, Indonesia is Vietnam ’s important partner and a promising market for Vietnamese enterprises, with last year’s two-way trade hitting about 5.1 billion USD.

Key exports of Vietnam to Indonesia include mobile phones, apparel, footwear, rice, electronic accessories and chemicals. It mainly imports coal, bronze and paper from Indonesia .

Indonesian Ambassador Mayerfas noted that the two countries reached many important deals last year, especially in agriculture, energy and finance.

The two sides also set up a joint committee on food and energy security cooperation, and will establish a similar one for economic, science and technology this year, he said.

Meanwhile, Ari Satria - an official from the Indonesian Ministry of Trade - called on Vietnamese businesses to prioritise Indonesia’s competitive and high-quality products, especially those with a Halal certificate.-VNA
