Vietnam-Laos symposium discusses protection of traditional cultural values

Scholars from Vietnam and Laos shared the view that the Parties, States and peoples of Vietnam and Laos should work together to protect their traditional cultural values.

HCM City (VNA) – Scholars from Vietnamand Laos shared the view that the Parties, States and peoples of Vietnam andLaos should work together to protect their traditional cultural values.

That would be the best way to protect the valuableasset of the special friendship between the two countries in the context ofstrong international integration and impacts of the market economy, they said ata symposium in Ho Chi Minh City on December 29.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dexanourath Seneduangdeth from the National University of Laos(NUL) said the traditional cultural values of Vietnam and Laos have been developedthrough thousands of years, serving as a firm foundation for each nation tomove ahead.

Therefore, he said, such values need to be preserved and carried forward in thecontext of globalisation and international integration.

Dr. Huynh Thanh Dat, Director of the Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh(VNUHCM), underlined the need to find a cultural policy suitable with thereform process of each country.

Apart from encouraging cultural exchange and absorbing selectively culturalvalues of the era, it is necessary to raise public awareness of traditional culturalvalues as well as the significance of the protection and promotion work, hesaid.

The symposium, jointly held by the NUL and the VNUHCM, brought together lecturersand researchers from 20 universities and research institutes of Vietnam and Laos.-VNA
