This is the 6th time in a row VietnamPlus, an e-newspaper of the Vietnam News Agency (VNA), has won high prizes of the National External Information Service Awards, affirming its position as a national newspaper for foreign service.

Hanoi (VNA) - The presentation ceremony of the 6th National External Information Service Awards (2019) was solemnly held in Hanoi on July 28 night.

The Vietnamese edition of VietnamPlus secured five prizes, including one first, one second, two third and one consolation prizes of the 6th National External Information Service Awards.

At the same time, the foreign language editions of VietnamPlus also won six prizes, including two second, one third and three consolation prizes.

This is the 6th consecutive time VietnamPlus has won high prizes of the National External Information Service Awards since it was launched in 2014.

Results of fact-finding trips

The winning works of VietnamPlus mention various outstanding matters and events of Vietnam in 2019 and first months of 2020, helping to introduce and popularise the images of the country and people of Vietnam to international friends.

The group of works “Nhung nguoi gac niem vui, noi buon vi To quoc” (Those who put aside joys and sadness for the Fatherland) by journalist Cao Thuy Giang was presented with the first prize in the e-newspaper category.

The COVID-19 pandemic has been ravaging many countries and territories around the world, posing a range of difficulties and challenges to the mankind. Over the recent past, the outcomes of Vietnam’s pandemic prevention and control proved its effective countermeasures.

In addition to updating information about developments of the pandemic, the reporter sought, listened to and recorded stories of people on the frontlines of the fight against COVID-19. The group of works “Nhung nguoi gac niem vui, noi buon vi To quoc” are the results of many fact-finding trips to hotspots and pandemic epicenters in provinces and cities across the country.

Through articles, the reporter of VietnamPlus wants to bring readers a more comprehensive and lively insight into the solidarity spirit of people from all walks of life as well as the great contributions and sacrifices of frontline forces such as medical workers and soldiers.

The works helped to deliver a message: Vietnam does not leave anyone behind.

The Vietnamese version of VietnamPlus also took one second prize with the work “Cuoc chien chong tin gia: Bao chi phai o tuyen dau” (The fight against fake news: The press must be on the frontline) and two third prizes with the works “Suc song xanh truong ton noi dau song ngon gio” (Everlasting green vitality at the most dangerous position) by journalist Vo Manh Hung and “Dai le Phat dan Vesak 2019: Thong diep ve mot the gioi hoa binh, yeu thuong” (Vesek 2019: The message about a world of peace and love” by journalist Le Minh Son.

At this year’s awards, VietnamPlus also secured a consolation prize for its reportage “Fansipand: Tu giac mo hoang duong toi cong trinh cua cac ky luc” (Fansipan: From a fabulous dream to a project of records).

These works focus on popularising the images of Vietnam as an attractive and beautiful destination as well as friendly and hospitable Vietnamese people.

In particular, the articles are all in the form of Mega Story, combining the text, photos and video clips to bring readers comprehensive and vivid information.

Affirming Vietnam News Agency’s position

The Vietnam News Agency (VNA) is one of the leading press agencies with the highest numbers and quality of works competing in the National External Information Service Awards for consecutive years. This year, the VNA won up to 44 prizes, including seven first prizes.

Many works of the VNA were highly evaluated by the jury such as “Nhung nguoi gac niem vui, noi buon vi To quoc” (Those who put aside joys and sadness for the Fatherland), “COVID-19: Giua tam dich” (COVID-19: In the pandemic epicenter) and “Hoi nghi thuong dinh Hoa Ky-Trieu Tien lan thu hai va chuyen tham chinh thuc Vietnam cua Chu tich Dang Lao dong Trieu Tien” (The second USA-DPRK Summit and the official visit to Vietnam by Chairman of the Workers Party of Korea).

Especially, series “Together We Win” consisting of seven video clips with an average length of two minutes each, made a big sound. This was a special communication campaign jointly carried out by the VNA and Media 21 JSC./.
