By the end of 2011, Vietnam had 127.3 million mobile phone and 10.2 million landline subscribers, as well as 30.5 million Internet users.

These figures are included in Vietnam’s 2012 White Book on Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), released by the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) in Hanoi on September 4.

MIC Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hong said that the book gives a real panorama of how the sector has developed in terms of ICT infrastructure, IT technology, post and telecommunications, IT application, ICT human resources and information security.

According to the book, published annually since 2009, the number of mobile phone and internet subscribers rose by 14 percent and 14.2 percent respectively in 2011. More than 16 million people also used 3G mobile networks, representing more than 80 percent of all broadband internet users in the year.

In 2011, postal services earned over 246.2 million USD, out of a total ICT turnover of 13.7 billion USD, a year on year rise of 79 percent.

At the same time, broadcasting services also expanded to cover the entire country and provide people with a diverse range of services.

IT application is now being widely applied in State agencies, making an active contribution to administrative reforms. Almost every ministry, State agency, city and province now have their own websites and portals.-VNA
