Vietnam confirmed 43 more A/H1N1 cases on August 9, which have brought the total victims of the super flu to 1,158 with one dead.

Among the new cases, 27 were found in the south, eight in the north, two in the central region and six in the Central Highlands, said the Department of Preventive Medicine and Environment under the Ministry of Health (MoH) .

To date, 635 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital while the remaining 523 are under treatment and strict supervision. They were reported to be in stable health condition without any major complications.

To limit the spread of the epidemic in the community, the MoH recommended that students and teaching staff at schools nationwide should actively keep a close watch on their health in order to soon discover the disease’s symptoms.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) reported that by August 9, there had been 206,987 people testing positive for A/H1N1 virus in 168 countries and territories worldwide, of whom, 1,673 have died.

Southeast Asia continued to see complicated developments of the pandemic with rapidly increasing numbers of new cases and fatalities. Among the regional countries, Thailand was the worst hit by the disease with 81 deaths./.
