Vietnamese ethnic writer Cao Duy Son was given the 2009 Southeast Asian Writers Award for a collection of short stories named “The Old House along the Stream”.

Son, together seven other writers from Southeast Asia, received the award from Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn at a ceremony held in Bangkok, Thailand, on Oct. 9.

Cao Duy Son, who is from the Tay ethnic minority group, began writing in 1984 and is currently vice chairman of the Association of Culture and Arts of Vietnamese Ethnic Groups.

He has published dozens of novels and collections of short stories, including “the Old House along the Stream”, which earned the Vietnam Writers’ Association’s 2008 award.

Son is Vietnam ’s 13 th writer who was presented with the SEA Writers Award. To Huu was the first Vietnamese writer to receive the award in 1996. Nguyen Ngoc Tu, with her collection of short stories “The endless field”, received the 2008 SEA Writers Award.

The 2009 SEA Writers Award also went to writers from Brunei , Indonesia , Laos , Malaysia , the Philippines , Singapore and Thailand./.
