A research centre under the Ho Chi Minh City ’s National University announced on Oct. 27 that it successfully produced a 32-bit processing chip VN1632 after three years of research and trial production.

The Integrated Circuit Design Research and Education Centre (ICDREC) said the VN1632 chip, the first of its kind in Vietnam , meets the requirements of complicated control systems with high processing speed such as mobile phones, encoding/decoding, communications and image processing equipment.

ICDREC integrated the chip into the mini electronic picture frame and designed a DE VN 1632 KIT to be used in research and education.

The centre is working with the Vietnam Map Company to produce black box for autos which is capable of checking cars’ speed and warn of over-speed.

Nghiem Xuan Minh, Head of the Natural and Social Science Department under the Ministry of Science and Technology, said the successful production of the chip made positive contribution to boosting IT application in socio-economic development and national security and defence./.
