The Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT) officially announced on November 4 that the American Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) granted accreditation for its degree programmes in Computer Sciences and Computer Engineering.

According to the HCMUT’s principal Vu Dinh Thanh, the recognition is a milestone in the university’s history, opening up bright career prospects around the world for future engineers enrolled in these programmes since their degrees are the first Vietnamese ones to meet the honourable international standard.

ABET, founded in 1932, is a non-profit and non-governmental accrediting agency for academic programmes in the fields of applied sciences, computing, engineering, and engineering technology. It is recognised by the US’s Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

At the event, Rena Bitter, US Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City said the partnership between the private business sector and the education sector will equip graduates with skills required to contribute to Vietnam’s development.-VNA
