Spanish coach Bruno Jose Formoso on February 11 officially took his post as head of Vietnam ’s futsal (indoor football) team.

Tran Anh Tu, member of the futsal board under the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), said Formoso is expected to help Vietnam ’s futsal enter a new stage of development.

Formoso will guide the Vietnam team for three years, with the immediate goal being in the top eight teams in the Asian Futsal Championship slated for late April this year in Vietnam.

He is also expected to play a leading role on the route to take Vietnam futsal to the World Cup.

Talking to reporters on February 11, the Spanish coach said Vietnam will have to work hard to make the World Cup dream come true. He also said Vietnam should pay more attention to training footballers and coaches.

He has planned a 10-day training course for the team in Spain in April to warm up for the Asian tournament.

Formoso, 39, is a member and trainer of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (REEF). He won the Ramon Cobo, an award for the best REEF coach in the 2011-12 season. He has worked in China and Peru before coming to Vietnam.-VNA
