Late Party General Secretary Nguyen Van Linh’s outstanding, creative contributions to the country’s renewal course were affirmed at a meeting in Ho Chi Minh City on June 30.
The participants emphasised that the late party chief played an extremely important role in steering the country out of socio-economic crisis to develop in a firm and stable manner.
The meeting themed “Nguyen Van Linh and the Party Committee and people of Saigon-Cho Lon-Gia Dinh-Ho Chi Minh City” was held on the occasion of the late party chief’s 95 th birth anniversary (July 1).
“Nguyen Van Linh’s contributions to the Party and the nation were great. He was an example of an exemplary and staunch communist and a strong and creative leader of our party,” said Secretary of the municipal party committee Le Thanh Hai.
Hai recalled the late party chief’s profound imprints on the history of Ho Chi Minh City when he worked as Secretary of the municipal Party Committee for eight terms between 1939 and 1986.
After the country’s reunification, Linh led the municipal party committee in bringing up the strength of the national unity bloc and becoming the pioneer in abolishing the subsidised economic management, thus helping the party shape renewal guidelines and policy.
On the occasion, Hai called on the municipal authorities and people to make their city a leader in national industrialisation and modernisation with fast and sustainable growth and a major centre of the country and Southeast Asia./.
