His best result this year was reaching the semi-final of the Malaysia Open Super Series in January.
With a total of 57,344 points, no more than last month's figure, Minh's advance was the by-product of China 's Bao Chunlai drop to eighth place with 55,740 points.
This is the highest ranking that the 27-year-old player has ever held.
It is also the best rank of a Vietnamese player in the world.
The two other southeast Asian players in the world top ten are Indonesia's former Olympian champion Hidayat Taufik at fifth and Thailand's Boonsak Ponasa at seventh./.
