Hanoi (VNA) – Vu Viet Ngoan was re-elected President of the Vietnam-Singapore Friendship Association for the 2021-26 tenure during its second congress held on November 18.

He assumed the position in the previous term between 2014 and 2021.

The congress also elected a 32-member executive board.

In its first term, the Friendship Association held various people-to-people diplomacy activities and obtained practical results contributing to the Vietnam-Singapore strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia and strengthening understanding and friendship between the two nations.

In the coming time, the organisation will work to implement an initiative to set up a Vietnam-Singapore friendship forum, and consolidate relations with Singaporean partners in holding activities.

It is to seek ways to bolster the countries’ business cooperation in fields of mutual concern, together with activities in cultural exchange, education and charity, among others.

Addressing the event, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Quoc Dung said the Vietnam-Singapore strategic partnership has been thriving more than ever, towards the 50th founding anniversary of the diplomatic ties in 2023.

From the start of 2020 to September this year, despite impacts of COVID-19, Singapore was the largest foreign investor of Vietnam with 11.4 billion USD in newly registered capital./.
