Two-way trade between Vietnam and Switzerland has continued to prosper in recent years, reaching 1.03 billion USD in the first 11 months of 2013, a year-on-year rise of 10.2 percent.

Of the figure, Vietnam exported 695.1 million USD worth of goods, resulting in a trade surplus of 351.2 million USD with Switzerland , up 25.25 percent against the 2013, according to the Swiss Customs Administration.

While Vietnam ’s gold exports sharply decreased, its shipment of machinery and electronic equipment went up. This is an encouraging sign for the country in changing the structure of its exports to the European country.

Vietnam sees great potential for developing its economic, trade and industrial ties with Switzerland , a strong economy that is less affected by the world economic crisis.

However, to boost exports to this market, local producers must meet strict requirements on food safety, eco-environment protection and use of labour on production lines.-VNA
