Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam-US music night will take place in Ho Chi Minh City on October 29 with the return of acclaimed violinist Vu Viet Chuong, introducing well-known opera songs to the public. 

The overture will open with the opera Candide, an adaptation of French writer Voltaire which debuted on Broadway stage for the first time in 1956, followed by a series of movie themes such as Schindler’s List, Memory of a Geisha and Scent of a Woman by John Williams.

Williams has won five Oscar awards, four Golden Globe Awards, seven British Academy Film and 22 Grammy awards. His music appeared in a number of popular films such as Star War, Superman, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones. He was also presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the American Film Institute in 2016.

Under the baton of Hector Guzman from the US, the second part will feature Sergei Rachmaninov’s Symphony No.2 which was played in Birdman – the Oscar-winning film in 2015.

The event will be co-organised by the Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera, the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organisations and the Vietnam – US Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh City.-VNA
