Vietship 2012 a chance for maritime development

Deputy PM Hai expressed this expectation at the opening of the 6th International Exhibition on Shipbuilding, Maritime Technology and Transportation (Vietship 2012) on Feb. 28 in Hanoi .

Hai said the global financial crisis directly and seriously affected maritime industries throughout the world, including Vietnam , adding that Vietnam faces difficulties in management, financial issues and technological ability in this sector.

In order to surmount the difficulties, the Vietnamese Government has set up a restructuring programme for its shipbuilding and maritime transportation industry with the aim of developing the industry to become a multi-technology industry with diverse ownership and good management ability, to contribute to successfully implementing the nation’s maritime industry development strategy, Hai said.

The Deputy PM urged investors in shipping and shipbuilding industries across the world to promote cooperative activities to foster development of the industry, affirming that the world economy and the shipbuilding industry in particular will see strong recovery after this difficult phase.

Covering an area of 10,000 sq.m, Vietship 2012 attracted more than 300 stalls of 200 domestic and foreign companies, including those from leading marine industry nations such as Japan , the Republic of Korea , China , the Netherlands , Poland , France , Switzerland , Norway , Singapore , Russia and Spain .

The exhibition also brought together marine designers, manufacturers, and suppliers from foreign and domestic firms.

In the framework of the exhibition, a conference themed “Future markets – Opportunity and Challenge” and a forum named “Suppliers” were also organised.-VNA
