The military-run telecom company Viettel said it has launched international roaming service for its pre-paid subscribers.

The company’s pre-paid subscribers who have a balance of at least 200,000 VND can register for this service by sending a message “CVQT” to 138.

Viettel Telecom’s Director Hoang Son said his firm will initially provide international roaming service to 21 countries and territories worldwide, such as Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Russia, France, Germany, the Czech Republic, Australia, Canada, the US, Belgium, Portugal, Greece, Hungary, Sweden, Turkey, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan.

Established in 2001, Viettel has emerged as the largest mobile phone service provider in Vietnam . It is the first Vietnamese telecom company to supply its services abroad.

The firm has to date installed more than 17,000 base transmission stations nationwide to serve around 36 million cell phone users. It is estimated that the number of Viettel subscribers will exceed 40 million by the year’s end./.
